Not seeing your double cash back on the Freedom Unlimited? Here’s why you shouldn’t worry

For a limited time, Chase is running a special offer for signing up for one of its most popular cash-back credit cards.

Since mid-October, the Chase Freedom Unlimited has been offering new cardholders double cash back earned in the first year. Chase will automatically match all the cash back you’ve earned in the first 12 months with no limit, essentially doubling the card’s earning rates.

THE POINTS GUY

However, some TPG readers — like the one in the email below — have contacted us to enquire why they’re not seeing the double cash back post to their accounts.

I signed up for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card through the TPG affiliate link a couple months ago, and I have not seen double points on my posted charges,” one reader wrote to TPG. “Seems like others on Reddit are having a similar issue. Are they seeing the double points post as they spend, or does it hit at the one-year mark?”

While regular cash back should post shortly after your monthly billing cycle closes, the double cash back earned through this special offer will be awarded as a lump sum at the end of your first year.

Here are the terms and conditions of the special offer:

With this offer you will receive a one-time bonus equal to all Cash Back rewards earned during your first 12 monthly billing cycles from account opening with your Chase Freedom Unlimited card. … Please allow 6 to 8 weeks from the end of your 12th monthly billing cycle for bonus Cash Back rewards to post to your account.

Let’s look at a real-world scenario. I applied for and was approved for this card on Dec. 5, so I will earn double cash back on all my purchases until early December 2024. During the next 12 months, I will receive the regular cash-back rate at the end of each monthly billing cycle.

However, I will need to wait until sometime between the first half of December 2024 and potentially as late as February 2025 to receive the one-time lump sum of double cash back.

We don’t expect this offer to stick around for much longer — and it’s arguably one of the best offers we’ve seen on this card. So, if you’ve been thinking of applying, now is the right time.

TPG associate credit cards writer Ryan Wilcox wrote about why now is the right time for him to pick up the card. Director of content Nick Ewen is planning to apply for the card this week, and SEO analyst Emma Keller explains why she has this card in her wallet as a credit card beginner.
