The Surrey opens in New York City’s Upper East Side Sept. 1
New York City’s luxury hotel scene just keeps growing — later this year, a new property on the Upper East Side is set to shake up the well-appointed neighborhood on behalf of well-to-do travelers looking for a high-end hotel.
The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, is now accepting reservations for stays from Sept. 1 on. We’ve had our eyes on this property for a while, and it even snagged a spot on our list of the most anticipated hotel openings of 2024.
The property is conveniently situated on East 76th Street near the beauty of Central Park and all the shopping opportunities that Madison Avenue offers. The original Surrey Hotel dates back to 1926, and over the years it’s been a favorite of the rich, famous and powerful. Prominent figures like John F. Kennedy and Bette Davis were known to be frequent guests.
Though it’s a historic property with plenty of old-school charm, The Surrey is currently undergoing a thorough revitalization and modernization. It will be Corinthia’s only hotel in the U.S. — but it certainly won’t lose any of the luxury amenities or service the European brand is known for.
Once open, The Surrey will have 70 guest rooms, 14 private residences and 30 suites, four of which will feature unique layouts and decor inspired by Central Park bridges. The interior redesign is being overseen by Martin Brudnizki, the award-winning firm behind other iconic New York hotels like The Beekman, The Fifth Avenue Hotel and Hotel Fouquet’s New York.
Beyond the rooms, Casa Tua, the on-site restaurant, will excite visitors to New York City and Upper East Side residents alike. Casa Tua will be the first New York outpost of the famed Miami-based Italian culinary empire.

The Surrey will also host a small but impressive spa designed by Advanced MedAesthetic Partners (better known as simply AMP). The spa will have two treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna and a gym.
How to book: Rates appear to start at $1,200 per night for a 366-foot Deluxe King room and $2,150 for a Junior Suite, which clocks in at 506 square feet.
Earlier this year, the Warren Street Hotel, another New York City hotel from our list of the most exciting openings in 2024, started welcoming guests. Located in Tribeca, the Warren Street Hotel offers a hodgepodge design aesthetic full of diverse textures and patterns that strike a great contrast to the sleek, clean lines of The Surrey (and, really, with hotels all across town).
This shows that in a city as diverse as New York, there’s room for every type of traveler … especially those with a little cash to burn.
