Popular Provincetown LGBTQ+ resort and nightlife venue heads to Key West for the winter

The Ptown party doesn’t have to stop just because it’s winter.

The popular Crown & Anchor resort — a hotel, dining and nightlife venue in Provincetown, Massachusetts — is heading to South Florida this weekend for the “Spread Queer Cheer” tour. The event, running from Thursday through Sunday, will feature more than a dozen Ptown-based performers and small-business owners in a series of events at Key West’s Havana Cabana Resort, where rates start at $169 per night.

The event follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal in November to reinstate a Florida law that had targeted drag shows. While Florida had placed ads around the country during the pandemic to court businesses to move to the state, this is an instance of Massachusetts returning the favor.

Bay State Gov. Maura Healey rolled out a “Massachusetts For Us All” marketing campaign of billboards and social media ads throughout Florida earlier this year following the Sunshine State’s law targeting drag shows.

The upcoming “Spread Queer Cheer” tour is meant to showcase Massachusetts’ diversity through drag performers like “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Tina Burner as well as other live entertainment. The Crown & Anchor’s pop-up at Havana Cabana Resort is open to hotel guests as well as the public.

“With the anti-LGBTQ+ laws and climate in Florida, we knew we had to bring Provincetown’s singular way of celebrating our community through performance and queer visibility to these iconic destinations in the state,” Crown & Anchor co-owner Jonathan Hawkins said in a statement. “We are amplifying our presence this year by expanding to three cities and partnering with integral LGBTQ+ organizations and businesses in each location. The ‘Spread Queer Cheer’ tour is not only a celebration of the recent legal victory but also a testament to the shared resilience and strength of the LGBTQ+ communities that exist in both Massachusetts and Florida.”

The Crown & Anchor heads to Key West

The Havana Cabana Resort-Crown & Anchor pop-up kicks off Thursday with Tina Burner’s “I’d Rather Be Naughty Than Nice” show.

Burner is part of the Friday lineup, too, with the “Anything-But-Silent Night” holiday singalong with other performers like Crown & Anchor co-owner Hawkins, “American Idol” alum Matthew Darren, “America’s Got Talent” alum Yoli Mayor and drag entertainers Delta Miles, Roxy Pops and Qya Cristál. There will also be a one-hour Conch Tour Train ride through Key West to explore holiday displays at homes and businesses before riders are dropped off in Old Town Key West.

Saturday’s activities include the Holly Folly Drag Brunch as well as a holiday pool party sponsored by Provincetown Brewing Co. The final stop of the Spread Queer Cheer tour takes place Saturday night at the resort with drag and live music performances. The weekend rounds out with another holiday pool party on Sunday.

Book now to get your last-minute holiday cheer and taste of Ptown without having to battle the winter weather of Cape Cod.
