Best credit cards for food delivery

Dining is consistently one of the most popular credit card bonus-earning categories, and this category often includes food delivery, either directly from a restaurant or through a delivery app such as DoorDash or Uber Eats.

Likewise, some credit card issuers offer food delivery benefits such as statement credits, free access to subscription services and delivery discounts.

If ordering in is a strong spending category of yours, here are six excellent cards that will help you maximize your deliveries with discounts, bonus points earning or both.

Restaurant restrictions

It’s worth noting that some of these cards offer dining bonuses that are supposed to exclude food delivery services. In practice, however, these services often still code as dining or food merchants and, in fact, earn bonus points.

For instance, Chase defines its dining category this way:

“Restaurant category merchants’ primary business is sit-down or eat-in dining, including fast food restaurants and fine dining establishments. Merchants that sell food and drinks located within facilities such as sports stadiums, hotels and casinos, theme parks, grocery and department stores will not be included in this category unless the merchant has set up such purchases to be classified in a restaurant category. Bakeries, caterers, meal kit delivery services and gift card merchants are not included in this category.”

That’s why the Chase Sapphire Reserve, for example, earns a 3-points-per-dollar dining bonus on orders from Postmates, Grubhub, Uber Eats and DoorDash. Your results may vary by card and delivery service, so check the terms and conditions to be sure.

If you want to stay on the safe side, you can always order directly through the restaurant’s website or over the phone if offered. Generally, this will bill your credit card directly from the restaurant, ensuring you earn extra points on your food delivery.

Bottom line

These are some of the best credit cards with bonuses and discounts specifically for dining and food delivery services. Remember, although some of these cards exclude food delivery from earning bonus points in their terms, many will still earn bonus points on delivery so long as the merchant codes the purchase as dining.

These bonus points, combined with other benefits like discounts and statement credits, will make your food delivery more rewarding than ever.
