Clear is latest TSA PreCheck enrollment provider

Following a trial last year, Clear is now an enrollment provider for TSA PreCheck applicants. It joins providers Idemia and Telos, the latter of which was added in August.

In April 2023, a Transportation Security Administration spokesperson confirmed the agency would also authorize Clear, the expedited security program, as the third TSA PreCheck enrollment provider. It was not official until one year later.

As of April 30, TSA PreCheck applicants now have the option to share their email, ZIP code and phone number with Clear to also apply for that program.

“Beyond that, no information is shared between Clear’s program and Clear’s TSA PreCheck application and the applications are even completed on separate devices,” a TSA spokesperson previously said.

To sign up for TSA PreCheck via Clear, applicants must enroll in Clear online before visiting one of the three currently available Clear enrollment locations — Orlando International Airport (MCO), Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) — within 14 days. More airports will be available over time, according to the TSA.

Although Clear normally costs $189 annually and TSA PreCheck starts at $78 for a five-year membership, those who enroll in TSA PreCheck through Clear can access the two programs for a discounted price of $200.

In addition to enrolling in person at the aforementioned Clear pods, travelers can apply in person at various Telos and Idemia locations.

For renewal, travelers can complete the process online through Clear, Telos or Idemia for the standard price of $70. TSA PreCheck users who are applying to Clear for the first time can renew their membership through Clear and get a discounted bundle price of $190.95.

This Clear news is a result of the TSA Modernization Act and the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2018.

“TSA PreCheck with enrollment by Clear provides a fast and efficient airport experience,” Clear CEO Caryn Seidman Becker said in a statement. “This is a win-win for U.S. travelers who will have access to more enrollment locations, expanded hours and other benefits.”

Certain credit cards offer statement credits covering the application costs associated with both Clear and TSA PreCheck.
